Panopto to Replace Ensemble Media Server
Panopto, an industry leader in video capture, storage and streaming, will soon replace Ensemble as Temple’s video hosting platform.
Panopto offers many benefits, including the ability to:
- easily incorporate your video files into your Canvas courses,
- record content using your Windows PC, Mac, or mobile device
- and search inside videos as easily as you search the web.
Why is Ensemble being replaced?
The Ensemble video platform will no longer be supported by its parent company effective August 2022. To prepare for this deadline, a cross-representational Temple committee was formed in 2021 to evaluate various alternative video hosting solutions. After a careful evaluation process, Panopto was found to be the clear winner.
What are the next steps?
Over the summer, Information Technology Services (ITS) will migrate all your Ensemble files to Panopto. To help make the migration process as streamlined as possible, we ask that you take an inventory of your Ensemble files before June 30 and remove any files you no longer need. For instructions on how to download or delete files, see the Ensemble Video website.
Note that once your files are migrated, the existing links will continue to work for two years, regardless of where the content is linked from (Canvas, websites, PDFs, etc.).
How will I learn to use the new system?
Faculty
The Center for the Advancement of Teaching (CAT) will be offering training workshops and support to faculty on using Panopto for teaching. We encourage you to visit one of the CAT Educational Technology Labs to consult with an Educational Technology Specialist. Check the CAT workshop calendar for updates on upcoming workshops.
