evidence of dose-response relationships between aerobic capacity and
longevity, cognitive health, physical functioning, and quality of life. I
actually think its a step backwards to look at animal models for this type
of recommendation. Its much easier to translate recommendations from
research across the human lifespan. [...]41_1Oct201109:13:02-0500thesportdr@GMAIL.COM0_0_ 824 247 52_Re: NYTimes.com: Want to Join Me for a Game? First of all, congratulations on the publication of your article!

Regarding your question: I see this as an excellent example of the
difference between the legal as compared with the ethical thing to do:
legally (if a complaint were to be made--and who would it be made by?
and to which regulatory body that has jurisdiction over you?), it
strikes me (caveat: this is not legal advice; I am not a lawyer) that
you have done what you can do, that is, that you represented yourself
accurately during the interview/in your submission (not really clear
whether this was an [...]49_1Oct201110:24:05-0400drhays@THEPERFORMINGEDGE.COM0_0_ 1141 138 84_Re: Daniel Rodriguez has shared: Innate exercise capacity can be linked to longevity18_David Dzewaltowski16_dadx@K-STATE.EDU30_Sat, 1 Oct 2011 11:01:43 -0400417_us-ascii Without reading the paper, I believe the point of this study is that genetic inherited aerobic capacity is linked to health outcomes not training. Much of the physical activity research does not take into the fact that VO2max and adaptations to training are primarily genetically detemined.

I'd
argue a key part of that is still a motivational/compliance issue.
Recommendations are based on avg dose-response relationships reported from
RCTs... so random assignment should take care of any genetic diffs. I'm just
saying from a public health perspective, there's plenty to go on. If we
want to fine-tune recommendations so that we can give tailored programs to
a 72-year-old with arthritist and diabetes (w/out gene-XYZ), and a 15 yr old
"fit kid" w/family history of CVD and the gene, then we've got a long way to
go... [...]41_1Oct201110:58:55-0500thesportdr@GMAIL.COM0_0_ 1500 174 49_Re: Proper representations and mistakes in print?15_Amanda J. Visek20_avisek@EMAIL.GWU.EDU30_Sat, 1 Oct 2011 12:01:46 -0400680_utf-8 Hi Tim et al.,

Let me add a few comments based on my knowledge and experiences with public
relations and marketing with regard to sport and exercise psychology in
print and media. It's important that we represent ourselves accurately no
matter the medium; however, when the actual text publication is in the hands
of someone else, particularly a reporter, you don't have control in the
interpretation of the information you provided. That is, there are times
when you represent yourself correctly, however your credentials are
mis-interpreted/mis-printed. I advise following up with the reporter/editor
to inform them of the mistake, but [...]41_1Oct201112:01:46-0400avisek@EMAIL.GWU.EDU0_0_ 1675 239 84_Re: Daniel Rodriguez has shared: Innate exercise capacity can be linked to longevity18_David Dzewaltowski16_dadx@K-STATE.EDU30_Sat, 1 Oct 2011 13:14:29 -0400509_us-ascii I don't disagree with the public health point. But, for sake of discussion social cognitive theory would certainly predict greater increases in self-efficacy in those individuals with a greater genetic predisposition for rapid increases in "fitness.". Also, I think we have prettymgood evidence that an RCT typically doesn't reach a representative sample of the population so I am sure in the near future we will start to do studies on tailored interventions and find greater effects. [...]37_1Oct201113:14:29-0400dadx@K-STATE.EDU0_0_ 1915 318 84_Re: Daniel Rodriguez has shared: Innate exercise capacity can be linked to longevity11_Sean Mullen20_thesportdr@GMAIL.COM30_Sat, 1 Oct 2011 13:26:46 -0500527_ISO-8859-1 Good points re SCT and generalizability. Anyone ever read (or conduct a study?) examining kids nested within
schools/classrooms and communities, and evaluated them across time?

I can't find a model paper. I feel like someone must've tested Eccles'
model by now. Perhaps I'm looking in the wrong places...41_5Oct201109:27:30-0500thesportdr@GMAIL.COM0_0_ 28130 64 36_Verbal persuasion vs. verbal placebo19_Tomas Adalsteinsson20_tomas.adal@GMAIL.COM30_Wed, 5 Oct 2011 11:02:43 -0500555_ISO-8859-1 Hi all,

Interesting article:
http://www.scienceofsocceronline.com/2011/07/placebo-effect-and-performance.html

What is the difference between verbal persuasion and verbal placebo?

Makes me think - is the purpose of mental skills training to create the
biggest placebo effect possible?

Although there was no context, or further detail, for the following quote in the middle of the Toronto Star article on Rick Martin, I thought it was an interesting finding that appeared to be dropped in with no further elaboration.

Thanks to Amanda for reposting and the DU grad students for blogging about the AASP sessions on disability, particularly the session we were involved in, talking about our research with American Paralympians. It was great to see so much on the program about this population. However, to be fair, some of what was described and attributed to us, was in fact the work of several of our Norwegian colleagues. The content of the blog was accurately representative of our session, but the attribution was a bit off... This video was a great insight on another non-traditional sport domain and
risk that these athletes take to do something that they love so much. One
mistake can mean so much. This idea is very fascinating to me and would love
to learn about more; this idea of sacrifice. As my eyes were 'glued' on the
screen, my stomach twisted and turned every move he made. It was amazing to
see how calm he was throughout the climb(s). He is also a very tranquil

After attending the AASP Conference in Hawaii and having multiple
discussions with members of the Diversity Committee, along with other
concerned members of AASP, a decision was made to start a SIG to
specifically address issues of race and ethnicity in sport.

The goal of this SIG will be to address racial and ethnic disparities in the
way sport psychology is accessed, promoted, represented in educational
training & sport psychology literature, and practiced in professional &
applied settings. [...]40_7Oct201112:19:00-0400lforster@TEMPLE.EDU0_0_ 30110 102 33_Re: Race & Ethnicity in Sport SIG16_MICHAEL L. SACHS17_msachs@TEMPLE.EDU30_Fri, 7 Oct 2011 16:28:21 -0400674_ISO-8859-1 Hi Latisha. Hope you are well. Please count me in for the SIG -

*Aging/Ageism and Boomers in Sports SIG!*

After some discussion among the Diversity Committee, it was decided that a
new SIG on aging, ageism and Baby Boomers in sports was a good idea. As a *
non-aging* Boomer myself (wink, wink), I volunteered to head this SIG. We
need 10 members to get this SIG going. Anyone interested in participating,
